Industrial IoT Solutions for Wireless and LoRaWAN Field Data

We engineer industrial IoT solutions that collect data wirelessly from motors, pumps, tanks and remote sites, and merge it with your PLC data in one model.

Industrial IoT solutions combine sensors, networks and software to turn field assets into usable data. Most factory data sits in PLCs, yet plenty of what matters is not wired to any controller: utility motors and pumps, tank levels, cold-room temperatures, remote meters, scattered buildings in an industrial park or a solar field.

Running cable to those points is often the most expensive line in the project. Low-power wide-area networks such as LoRaWAN collect data from battery-powered sensors with very little infrastructure. Designed poorly, though, they leave coverage gaps, batteries that die unnoticed and a pile of readings nobody uses.

VOLSOFT does not sell sensors or gateways. We do the engineering: coverage planning with hardware you prefer or standard industrial products, decoding data from the network server, and placing it on Proxus in the same Unified Namespace as your PLC data.

What we deliver

Industrial IoT Solutions

  • Coverage and network design

Gateway and antenna placement are planned on site around walls, steel structures and distances. Signal strength and packet loss are verified during the pilot.

  • Vendor-neutral sensor selection

Temperature, humidity, vibration, pressure, level, contact and pulse-counter sensors are selected from different manufacturers to fit the use case. We specify hardware; we do not resell it.

  • From network server to platform

Uplinks from the LoRaWAN network server are received over MQTT, decoded into engineering units and published into Proxus.

  • Condition monitoring

Vibration and temperature trends on motors, pumps, fans, compressors and HVAC units are tracked, and maintenance is alerted when limits are crossed.

  • Remote sites and utilities

Tank and well levels, water and energy meters, solar fields and substations are monitored on the same dashboards as the plant.

  • Device health

Battery level, signal quality and last-seen time are tracked for every sensor, so a silent device is caught before it becomes a data gap.

How a project runs

From discovery to live, step by step

  1. 01

    Use case

We define which assets are monitored, which decisions the data supports and who receives the alerts.

  2. 02

    Site survey and hardware

Coverage is measured on site, gateway locations are chosen, and sensors are specified vendor-neutrally for the environment and the measurement.

  3. 03

    Pilot

A limited set of points goes live to test signal quality, reporting intervals and measurement accuracy under real conditions.

  4. 04

    Integration

Data flows into Proxus, is attached to the right asset in the Unified Namespace, and rules and dashboards are built.

  5. 05

    Scale and operate

The network is extended, device health is monitored, and battery replacement and fault handling are handed over to maintenance.

Built on Proxus

Wireless sensor data enters Proxus over MQTT, where it is decoded, placed in the same data model as PLC data, stored in the historian and turned into alarms by rules.

Proxus is the industrial data platform built by the VOLSOFT team.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

What are industrial IoT solutions?

Industrial IoT solutions collect data from field equipment through sensors, PLCs or wireless networks and turn it into decisions on maintenance, energy and productivity. Common examples are condition monitoring, energy monitoring, tank level tracking and OEE. Each solution has a sensor, a network and a software layer.

What is LoRaWAN used for in industry?

LoRaWAN is a low-power wide-area protocol that lets battery-powered sensors send small amounts of data over long distances. In industry it is used for slow-changing measurements on assets that are hard to wire, such as utility equipment, tanks, meters and remote sites.

When is wireless better than wired data collection?

Wireless fits points where cabling is expensive, there is no power and readings every few minutes are enough. Machine states, part counts and fast process signals are better collected through the PLC over a wired network. Most projects combine both.

Does VOLSOFT sell sensors or gateways?

No. VOLSOFT is an engineering and integration firm and does not resell hardware. We specify sensors and gateways from different manufacturers, you buy them through your preferred channel, and we design the network and integrate the data.

Can wireless data be combined with PLC data?

Yes. On Proxus, wireless readings are placed in the same Unified Namespace as PLC data, under the asset they belong to. A pump's vibration and its run state from the PLC can then be analyzed together.

What does an industrial IoT solution provider actually deliver?

A solution provider should deliver a working system, not a box of devices: use case definition, site survey, hardware specification, network setup, integration, dashboards and alerts, plus a handover your team can operate. That is the scope VOLSOFT takes on.
